How to Become a Firefighter
There are three firefighter levels in Ohio with different hourly training requirements:
- Volunteer: 36 hours
- Firefighter I: 136 hours
- Firefighter II: 256 hours
Requirements
You must be eighteen years of age to be eligible to be certified. You will have to successfully complete the appropriate course of training through one of Ohio’s chartered fire training programs, which are located at multiple locations throughout the state, such as Sinclair Community College or the Ohio Fire Academy.
