[ARCHIVED] Battle of the Badges back on for 2021

For Release copy 2

Everyone who registers to donate can cast a vote for police or firefighters.  They will also receive the Community Blood Center “Cancer Fighters are the GOAT” t-shirt, honoring October Breast Cancer Awareness Months. Appointments are encouraged. Schedule online at or call (937) 461-3220.

The firefighters have been hard to beat, topping the vote count in four of the first five blood drives. Police turned the tide in 2019 with a 54-46 win. Then came the COVID-19 pandemic, which sidelined the competition in 2020.

Fire Chief David VandenBos and Police Chief Jeff Fiorita kicked off recruiting for the blood drive with a publicity photo. Volunteers will continue the tradition of serving award-winning firehouse chili and cop shop cookies to donors in the Donor Café.

The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive offers the opportunity to donate platelets and plasma. These blood components vitally important for the treatment of cancer patients, as well as trauma, transplant, and burn patients. Donors are in high demand, especially blood types A, AB, or B positive. Find out by calling (937) 461-3220.
